Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does the tint go on the outside?

A. No, tint always goes on the inside. When preparing the film for a curvy window, the film is applied on the outside first to heat-shrink, or mould the tint to the curve of the glass, then it is applied to the inside.

Q. What makes a tint illegal?

A. According to West Australian law, you are only allowed a film which has VLT(Visual Light Transmittance) of 35% and doesn t reflect more than 10% light. If film is fitted darker or more reflective than that, your car can be defected.

Q. Why do some tints bubble?

A. A bubbled film means it has deteriorated over time, the glue has broken down and normally the colour in the film will have faded. All films will break down over time(even with a life time warranty) but spending a little extra is worth it when having a good quality film fitted as it will last longer and block out more heat than the cheaper films.

Q. How long before I can wind my windows down?

A. TKO Tinting recommends not to wind your windows down for 24 hours to prevent the tint from pulling at the top edges. We suggest putting some tape over your window winder handle or switch to remind you not to put the window down.

Q. Are graphics illegal?

A. If a 35% graphic is applied first then another layer of 35% fitted on top of it, it makes the graphic darker than the legal limit so is illegal. Generally, the traffic authorities don t mind a logo or small design in the back window or some small graphics running along the bottom of your side windows, but the police can still defect your car if they feel it is too dark or blocking your vision.
